Portuguese Hot & Spicy Trinchado

Trinchado!

Mmmmm…

Classic Portuguese Comfort food at its Absolute Best…

This dish is believed to have originated in Angola and Mozambique and was adopted by South African Portuguese communities.

It is hot, spicy and saucy, so if you enjoy mopping and dipping potatoes or bread, this is the meal for you.

Ingredients:

500g  Tenderized Steak or Fillet Steak

4   Fresh Garlic Cloves

2   Dried Red Chillies

2t  Smoked Paprika

1t  Salt

     Black Pepper (to taste)

1C  Chicken Stock

3T  Worcestershire Sauce

1T   Lemon Juice

1  Onion

1  Bay Leaf

3t Oil

1. Cut the Steak into strips and add it into a bowl.

2. Peel and slice the Fresh Garlic Cloves.

3. To make the Marinade: Add the sliced Garlic, Red Chillies, Smoked Paprika, Salt, Black Pepper, Chicken Stock, Worcestershire Sauce and Lemon Juice into a small jug and mix well.

4. Pour it over the Steak and marinade it for ½ hour.

5. Peel the Onions and cut it into thin slices.  Add some Oil to a frying pan, add the Onions and fry it until it is light golden brown. Remove it from your pan.

6. Remove ½ the Steak out of the bowl. Add some Oil to the frying pan, add the Steak and fry for 3-5 minutes. Turn and stir it often. Remove it from the pan.

7. Repeat the same process with the other ½ of the Steak.

8. Keep the Marinade aside until later.

9. Add the Onions, Bay Leaf, other Steak and leftover Marinade back into the pan. Stir through and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the sauce has reduced and thick.

Serve it with some potato wedges, fried chips or Portuguese bread.

Absolutely Fantastic!

Lotsa Love
