Big Breakfast Square Scones

Sometimes we need something different for breakfast.

Something light, airy and somewhat healthy.

The nutty, crunchiness of these big brown whole wheat square scones can be just that.

Scones are quick and easy to make, they can be served with sweet or savoury toppings

Ingredients: Makes 12

1½C Cake Flour

1½C Nutty Wheat Flour

3t   Baking Powder

½t  Salt

4T   Sugar

6T   Margarine (80g)

320ml  Water

1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

2. Add all the dry ingredients (Cake Flour, Nutty Wheat Flour, Baking Powder, Salt and Sugar) into a bowl and mix.

3. Add the Margarine to the dry ingredients.

4. Use your fingertips to rub everything together until it forms crumbs.

5. Add the Water to the mixture, use a knife to combine the dough. Do not knead the dough.

6. Place the dough onto a well floured work surface.

7. Press it down gently with your fingertips, about 2cm in height. Shape into a big square.

Tip: Do not use a rolling pin.

8. Cut it into 12 equal squares with your knife.

9. Place them evenly spaced onto a well-oiled baking sheet pan.

10. Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk or some beaten egg and sprinkle them with a little cinnamon sugar

11. Bake them for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Cut them in half and top them with whatever your heart desires.

Lotsa Love
